History of Mack Brewery: During the 1800s the Mack Brewery was one of three breweries
in Central City and one of the first in Colorado. For years the Mack
Brewery supplied thousands of kegs of beer to Central City, Black
Hawk and surrounding mountain towns. Crowds would gather to enjoy
the fine weather, visit with their neighbors, drink beer and eat soft
German cheese. A small swimming pool in the garden served as an ice
factory in the winter and enough ice would be stored to cool the beer
in the summer. The brewery is recognized as an historic landmark.
Recently dedicated to the City of Central by Prospectors Run, the
city is currently preparing preliminary architectural drawings with
the idea of stabilizing and/or rebuilding the site.
